An updated 2016 Honda Accord

The Honda Accord is well into its ninth generation and for 2016, one of the most popular mid-size sedans has received an updated look to match Honda’s new design signature.

The Honda Accord has a well established reputation as a reliable and comfortable sedan. Despite some pretty aggressive competition in the segment, it manages to comfortably keep its share of the market, and thanks to a mid-cycle facelift, Honda hopes it will continue to do so in the years to come. The new lines on the Accord are bolder and slightly more aggressive. They adopted the “frowning” look with the chrome strip running from the top of one headlight to the other, a chrome belt crossing the front grille with Honda’s famous “H” as a buckle and new modern-looking headlamps. The most noticeable change is the rear portion that receives more shapely, full-LED taillights. The 2016 Accord sedan is now available in eight different trim levels, two of which are the all-new “Honda Sensing” trims that include a suite of  additional safety features, plus a standard CVT.

The design of the 2016 Honda Accord remains on familiar grounds

Interior styling remains very similar to last year’s, with the elegant yet modern three-decker dashboard, highlighted with chrome inserts. Another element consistent to the model’s legacy: the space. The proportions of the 2016 Accord remain the same to maintain the flexibility and the comfort of a five-seat sedan with plenty of leg room at the back. Cargo volume also sits at 447 liters, which will easily accommodate the needs of any family.

The options in the Accord go from frugal to lavish in the blink of an eye. If the entry-level model will get you the essentials such as heated front seats, HandsFreeLink with Bluetooth connectivity and wheel-mounted controls, your choice of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and SMS and e-mail function, you can add such luxury as heated rear seats, satellite radio, adaptive cruise control, wireless device charging, navigation, proximity key, and many more, to the menu by skimming through the different trim levels.

Safety-wise, you have the option of enjoying more or less assist technologies by hand-picking your favorite safety assists such as Honda Lane Watch, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist and so on. New for 2016, you can also opt for either the LX Honda Sensing or the Sport Honda Sensing trims that add to the base models a flight of additional safety technologies normally available on more expensive trims.

The 2016 Honda Accord is offered either with a 2.4-liter, 4 cylinder engine, rated at 185 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, that jump to 189 hp and 182 lb-ft on the Sport trim, or with a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 278 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. The available transmission will also vary with the engine and the trim, from a 6-speed manual, to a 6-speed automatic to a CVT. And if fuel economy is a concern, the ECON mode is there the help manage those numbers and keep them under control.
