This summer, the Honda Accord will welcome back its hybrid variant with a better look, more power and better fuel economy.
With a popular ninth generation mid-size sedan that reconnected with its roots, the Accord has become one of the best trending family oriented sedan. The returning hybrid will offer the same convenient volume, with all the space necessary for the family, but now sporting the maker’s new visual signature and with improved fuel economy ratings. Like the 2016 Accord, its hybrid version receives the latest in Honda design with more sculpted hood and side panels, an updated front grille and headlights. Following in the footsteps of the smaller Civic named Canada’s best selling compact sedan in Canada for almost 20 years, the new-generation Accord has also been getting the best sales numbers in Canada for three years now. With its upgrades, Honda hopes to see the model at the top the list once more, especially thanks to the fuel-efficient hybrid. In the words of Dave Gardner, Honda Canada senior vice-president of Operations, “The new Honda Accord Hybrid is the ultimate Accord – the most refined, technologically advanced and, of course, most fuel efficient in the lineup.”
On the inside, the Accord receives a variety of new technologies and features for the comfort and entertainment of the driver and his passengers. Standard and optional features include heated front and rear seats, a wireless charging mat, keyless entry with pushbutton start, HandsFreeLink Bluetooth connectivity, wheel-mounted controls, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for an improved smartphone integration, active noise cancellation and much more. Honda is also expecting the hybrid to receive its five-star and top safety pick ratings in terms of safety thanks to technologies such as the Honda Sensing Suite, a package of safety features that includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and road departure mitigation.
One of the biggest improvements in the 2017 Accord hybrid are power and fuel economy. The new hybrid mid-size sedan receives a 2.0L Atkinson Cycle engine teamed with a lithium-ion battery pack. The two engines will transition smoothly between three drive modes, from full EV that will use only the battery to propel the car, the hybrid mode in which case the combustion engine will produce and feed the energy to the battery that will itself power the car and the engine drive that will use the energy from both engines, in parallel. These combinations will allow the vehicle to achieve a combined average of 5.0L/100km.
