Visitors of the Montreal Auto Show will be able to discover the next Honda Civic Type R in prototype version, which – and this is a good thing - does not seem very far from production. Unveiled a few months ago, the Civic Type R will be Honda's new high performance vehicle when it arrives on the market later this year.
The Honda Civic Type R Prototype at the Montreal Auto Show
Until January 29, visitors of the Montreal Auto Show will be able to discover the new Type R, the most powerful version in the Civic range that is already on sale in Europe and that is about to get a full refresh. The version we will get here in Canada will be this completely refreshed version.
Few details have been revealed about the upcoming Civic Type R, but it would not be surprising that it retains the same aggressive and dynamic lines of the concept showcased at the Montreal show. The red accents, the massive black wheels, the aerodynamic package and the huge spoiler should be on the production Type R, as well as the triple exhaust positioned in the center of the rear bumper.
Inside, the prototype displays a cockpit that should also look like the final version with seats offering abundant lateral support and more red accents everywhere. Alcantara will probably also be quite plentiful, starting with the seats and steering wheel.
An unknown engine for the Honda Civic Type R
For now, we do not know which engine will be under the hood of the Honda Civic Type R. However, it would not be surprising to see a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder developing more than 300 horsepower. Some rumors indicate that the power could even rise to 340 horsepower.
We will have to wait to see the final production version that will undoubtedly be unveiled soon to know the exact specifications of the Type R. Meanwhile, you can discover the Honda Civic Type R concept at the Montreal International Auto Show this week.
